We’re Heading Back to the Cootamunda Sprints with the Vintage Sports Car Club of Australia

Cootamundra Sprints by Robyn Mackay

The VSCCA are holding their Cootamundra Sprints once again this Saturday the 3rd of September. They’ve invited Club Ambassadors Syd Reinhardt and Ashton Roskill back to defend their honour after last year’s performances, and would love to see the rest of us as well! Over to Ashton.

Righto, following on from last year, and the fact that Syd and I obviously didn’t cause too much disgrace, Tim has kindly asked us back!

You may recall that last year, the wonderful people at VSCCA waived their age rule so that we could run in cars that were younger than 30. This allowed us to experience the wonderful event, which is a lovely mix of fun social time, very unusual and interesting cars, fine weather, and a couple of great pieces of road between Sydney and Coota. And the chance to try your hand at the 1/4 mile sprint against some awesome machinery.

The event is held on the 1.5 kilometer long, 18-metre wide Cootamundra Airport runway. Two cars run safely side by side over a timed 400 metre stretch and both full speed timed acceleration sprints and regularity sprints will be held.

The sprints are run in an informal arrangement in which competitors are able to choose their running mate.

Entry is $90 and limited to 80 cars on a first come first served basis. No CAMS or AASA licencing is required and neither are roll bars. For more information, download the entry letter and supplementary regulations here (as at 06/07/16):

A social evening will be held on Saturday evening at the Cootamundra Services Club. Dinner is $30 per head, plus drinks.

Cootamundra is around four and a half hours from Sydney, and the drive there and back makes for a wonderful road trip – especially if you partake in some of the “back” route options.

Accommodation options remain as per last year, and as the Cootamundra Father’s Day Swap Meet is run on the Sunday, you need to get in pretty quick smart – we are setting up CLA HQ at the White Ibis, but they only have 12 rooms so get in quick!
