1970 Lotus Elan SE Federal Drop Head Restoration Project
Type 45 – 1970 Lotus Elan SE Federal Drop Head
VIN/Chassis number 7012230091K
Engine number G/24101
Imported from California, USA, Import permit number 28675/1 issued 6 June 1997 (copy available).
I bought this car in parts 20 years ago when it was at the beginning of a ground-up restoration, but life has never allowed me to complete it. I hope to see it drive again, so it is time to let it go into the hands of someone who is able to complete the project.
The restoration commenced in the United States, and all parts were shipped to Australia including many new parts and a replacement chassis from the Lotus factory.
The engine was rebuilt in April 2005 by the Elan Factory and receipts are available for full listing of work, which included overhaul of Lotus twin cam water pump, sonic test of cylinder block – OK, crack test crankshaft – OK, crack test conrods – all OK. Harden seats installed for PULP.
As a US import, the Elan is left-hand drive, but will be sold with most components required for the right-hand drive conversion. The conversion to right-hand drive has been commenced, and all original parts were retained.
New parts purchased during my ownership include a new alternator, high torque starter motor, right-hand drive peddle box assembly, new CV joint driveshafts, new dash, new fuel tank plus lots more.
Asking $25500 ONO.
