Lotus Photos: 2014 CLA Christmas Picnic and Concours

December the 7th, 2014 saw us gather together at Lane Cove National Park to enjoy a summer morning chatting cars, the universe and everything at our annual Christmas Picnic.

Our annual Christmas Picnic is a relaxed summery affair in which we gather around our cars to enjoy each others’ company, some light lunch and Christmas pudding! The turnout this year was utterly magnificent and far exceeded our expectations, so thank you to everyone for coming along and getting involved!

This year we used the picnic as an opportunity to hold our 2014 Concours d’Elegance after the 2014 All British Day was rained out back in September. Thank you to everyone for supporting the Concours – each and every car was beautifully prepared and, once again, the turnout was stunning.

Lotus Club Awards

As we wrapped up the morning and prepared to run away from the afternoon storm, we were thrilled to present a series of awards recognizing various efforts within the club.

The Clubman Pointscore Trophy is awared to the person who provides most support and attendance to Club events and Mike Basquil was awarded this for the eighth year on the trot – generally no-one comes close although last year Ashton did manage to give him a run for his money.

The Syd Hayes Trophy is for the NSW Concours d’Elegance and this year was awarded to Rod Kennedy for his red Elan S1. Rod also won his class and People’s choice! The National Concours d’Elegance trophy is awarded every second year at the Nationals, and Ed Holly is currently the holder for his Lotus Eleven.

Traditionally the Champion Driver Trophy (re-christened the Owen Wuillemin Trophy in honour of the great man) would be awarded at the Picnic, but the CSCA series is yet to be decided. Contenders are Mark Alexander, Rex Hodder and Syd Reinhardt – we will know next weekend who the winner is!

2014 Concours d’Elegance Winners

  • Syd Hayes Trophy for Best Overall Car: Rod Kennedy and his Elan
  • Elan: Rod Kennedy
  • Elise: Ed Burton and Leigh Fuller (joint winners) and 3rd was Murray Lund
  • Exige: Graham Weir

  • M100: Tom Devitt

Thank you to all who came along and got involved, and especially to everyone who played a role in organising and executing the day, as well as to our caterers and judges! Your support is greatly appreciated.
