On Saturday August 16, 2025, we held our Club Lotus Australia-hosted CSCA round four at Sydney Motorsport Park for a healthy field of 76 drivers. Let’s catch up on the action and enjoy some photos from the day.
We were very fortunate to enjoy a sunny break following what was otherwise a pretty wet and miserable few weeks. Once the sun was up it started feeling like spring, which gave us ideal conditions for motor sport with plenty of warmth in the circuit and tyres, but not yet so hot as to slow things down again.
Mazda MX-5 Club Driver Brett Lansley
As mentioned, we were pleased to host 76 runners on the day. This was down from the over 90 we had last year, but still a very healthy (and viable) field. We joined forces once again with the MX-5 Club of NSW, and they continue to be a great fit with the series, providing good company both on and off the track and an active and enthusiastic membership.
Brett Stevens in the office making sure everything ran smoothly
With 5 groups of around 16 cars each, the large time delta between the fastest to slowest cars of 44 seconds did not cause any undue stress or frustration. We were able to use live Natsoft times to reorder each group between sessions, which was very helpful in minimising speed mismatches and something we will certainly do again next year as it makes the day more enjoyable and a lot safer.
Martin Duursma, Geoff Linders and Colin Rudd on the dummy grid with Graham Allen and Brett Stevens checking in
There was some excitement when Marty’s Lotus did a fiery smoky lap due to a burst oil line, but this did not cause a major delay to proceedings and we are happy to report that there were no significant safety issues or major bingles.
Mark Waring on turn three watched over by his stunning purple Elise
We would like to send a special ‘Thank you!’ to all of the volunteers and the ARDC who helped out with marshalling and scrutineering. Graham Allen spent a solid month making sure everything was done, checked and implemented efficiently on the day. Georgina and Hannah Allen together with Brett Stevens ran the grid marshalling, including re-ordering the grid positions between sessions, with Brett also manning the microphone all day.
Cathy Sheppard did a fantastic job of wrangling all the competitors at check-in, with son Liam helping with marshalling alongside Stephen Alcorn, Graham and Margarita Weir, Richard Woodhams and Mark Waring. Evan Jones also lent his expertise acting as our chief steward for the event. Putting a day like this together is a huge team effort, and we are very grateful for everyone’s support and good company!
Garth Selig was received a special mention award for the little blue rocket, with Richard thanks to Graham Allen
It was also great to have the team from Simply Sports Cars and Lotus Cars Australia at the event and we’d like to send a grateful thank you to Richard for the display cars and help with the prize giving. We’re lucky to have the official Australian representatives of the marque on board as active members of the Sydney Lotus community.
Colin Rudd through turn eight
MG Car Club Newcastle’s Adam Single was once again the quickest on the day, pedalling the Williams sports racer to a 1:38.91. Our Colin Rudd was only about a second slower, however, steering his Exige to a 1:40.97 at the head of P3.
Ralph Thompson coming down the hill towards the back straight
Geoff Linders went third quickest and second in class, Martin Duursma following in third P3 and Ralph Thompson fourth. Malcolm Cooke squeezed in an impressive 27 laps, piloting his Exige to first in M3 on a 1:45.26, while Peter Taylor and Brett Monk rounded out the top ten for CLA.
Craig teaching the next generation of racers the workings and importance of the HANS device
It was good to see Craig Sheppard out again in the Exige Cup 240R, running a 1:50.54 and going fastest M2.
Ashton & Garth chatting in the pits between outings
Garth Selig is keeping the GSM Dart busy, and ran a 1:59.32, our President Ashton Roskill not far behind in the Elite that Garth helps tune and maintain on a 2:01.15.
Jaguar Drivers Club of Australia’s Ross Donnelley was awarded the most impressive entry for his last minute scramble to change cars and resubmit all of his paperwork, thanks to Graham Allen
At time of writing it’s only two weeks until round 5 of the CSCA series, which will be hosted for the first time by the Mazda MX-5 Club of NSW. The round will be held on the Sydney Motorsport Park Amaroo circuit on Sunday 21 September, and you can find all of the information you need on the MX-5 Club’s website by clicking this link. Please do show them your support! We’ll look forward to seeing you there.
