Monday September 4th
Arrive and collection from London Heathrow, then onto the two old Lotus factories at Hornsey and Cheshunt…..see Colin Chapman’s original desk at Hornsey, and the wall safe that allegedly has never been opened since Lotus moved. Then onto Cheshunt to see the ‘Cortina ramp’, Team Lotus workshops with the hoist still in situ that lifted engines into the workshop. Then onto Norfolk and the Maids Head Hotel….the oldest hotel in the U.K……and haunted!
A fairly easy day looking around the historic city of Norwich with its 10th Century Cathedral and Castle. Voted fifth best shopping city in the U.K.
A tour of the Lotus manufacturing plant at Hethel, then to Ketteringham Hall, the home of Team Lotus from 1970-1994. ACBC final resting place, ‘Putman’s Leap’, then to Clive Chapman’s Classic Team Lotus. Dinner in the evening with one, possibly two, Lotus ‘old boys’.
A drive to picturesque North Norfolk via National Trust’s beautiful and stunning Blickling Hall. Then to the market town of Holt and visit the many antique shops, finally, finishing up at the quaint seaside town of Sheringham….for ice cream.
* A tour of the beautiful gardens of East Carlton Manor, the home of Hazel Chapman for almost 50 years. We then drive toward London and visit the workshops of Lotus historic racer Malcolm Ricketts, then to the famous Brooklands Museum ending up at our base for Goodwood.
Saturday & Sunday
Goodwood Revival….the greatest show on earth. ( In my opinion ) On Saturday you will have seating in the Woodcote Stand, Sunday will include roving Grandstand tickets.
The tour ends and back to London Heathrow, or maybe an extended stay………
*The tour of East Carlton Manor is on the understanding that a donation is given to ‘Sarah’s Charity’. Sarah, Colin and Hazel’s daughter, who died of breast cancer. Sarah’s Charity, was set up by the family to support Care in the Home, so the terminally ill can spend their last days in the comfort of their own homes.
